The Indian Insurance Institute, Kolkata, a pioneer of its kind in India was founded in 1930 by eminent nationalists Sri Surendranath Tagore, Sri S.C. Roy & others with a view to boost up the morale of the indigenous Insurance Company’s to bring them out from the pitfall of unequal competition of foreign insurers backed by alien rulers. Later, luminaries like Dr.N.R.Sarkar ,Sri H.C.Chakraborty, Sri A.C. Sen became the Presidents of General Secretaries of the Institute at different times and played an important role in spreading insurance education. The Indian Insurance Institute, along with some others were instrumental to establish Federation of Insurance Institute which came to be known as Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai in 1955. Since then it (Indian insurance Institute) is functioning as an affiliated local institute under III Mumbai as its Kolkata Chapter.
